His problem

I had previously heard some of Green Day's early work, though nothing for four or five years, when I encountered a clip from one of their later hits. One of my friends was going through a rough patch and had sent me a mix-CD, which he promised would explain his attitude and situation much clearer than if he tried to use his own words. The CD began and ended with snatches of a Green Day song. I did not know very much about it at the time, as it was listed in such a scribble that I could not read the title of the track, and the word Green Day read more like G'day or Oaay.

I played the CD a few times, trying to click into my friend's problems so that I could maybe find some songs to send back as advice or comfort, having promised to send him a mix-CD in return. I will not discuss his actual problems here, but it seemed that his problems would run through until either September or October of that year. This song was the clue to that, the others leading me to comprehend the problem itself.

Looking back, it is the only Green Day track that I have heard in around a decade. Whereas it is not one of my favorites, it gave expression to a friend's problem that he could not otherwise voice. That makes it special in a different way. I do not know if my return CD was of any assistance to him or not, but he has ended up seemingly much happier than those troubled times of three years ago.
