One of the strong interests developed during my teens was a love of live theater productions. I used to attend a small theater company's shows in one suburb and also a larger company's plays in another, quite regularly. I thought it fun to watch the usual cast obtain new images and characters, mixed in with a famous star or two who were generally added to the cast to attract patrons. At one point, I even had season tickets and picked my favored seating. Although I really enjoyed a good drama, the musicals were my absolute favorite style of live performance at this time.

The first musical I saw live was South Pacific. The sadness and the romance really caught my youthful hear. It was not long after watching the performance twice that I grabbed the album to relive the music to play at home after the season ended. My parents had seen the musical many years before, shortly after it had first been produced and they mentioned this to me when hearing my new purchase. Mother had laughed. She told me that at the time she had seen it, many years prior to my sighting, she had sung the song I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair numerous times to cheer herself up when going shopping.

Apparently, there was a local storekeeper whom she thought acted rather grumpily. She really got bothered by his angry attitude and used to become upset. She used to sing this song because she wished she could get rid of the offending grocer. It was her way to stop being cross that he was cross. I liked this song myself, but more for the enjoyment of the music than for such a personal use.
