From TV to record

I watched a lot of TV in my youth. In fact, other than typing short stories about how I wanted my life to be because it was not actually, TV was my only other escape. I would watch everything, from kiddies cartoons to nature documentaries, from black and white movies to hymn singing, from fifties musicals to sci-fi series, from soapies to music shows. TV was more than a hobby in those days; it was my life.

One day, my mother told me that there was a program she wanted to watch that was now being shown. She said she had used to watch it once, a long time ago. Curious, I also sat down and watched. The show was Dr Kildare. The only information my mother had given prior to the show starting was that there was a handsome young doctor and a pretty young nurse as well as an older doctor. I had watched a couple of medical shows before, so was interested to check this one out also.

I quite liked the program, though it never became a favorite of mine. What did catch my heart was the music. The theme song stood out. I had no idea that it was popular with other people also, or that it could be purchased on a record. I liked the music so much that I made my own tape-recording of it, so I could play it whenever I wished. I came across the properly recorded version many years later, when hunting through a second hand record store in Melbourne. Memories of the TV show flooded back to me, though I could probably not tell you any more than my mother had told me, that it had a young doctor, an old doctor, and a young nurse. One thing I would add is that it also had a great theme tune!
