San Francisco has been a very important city to me, so it is not surprising that my ears perk up when hearing a song about it. I first heard this song many years ago, whilst a child in England. I heard it on a movie, but had no clue as to how important the city would become in my future. It was just an American city at that stage of my life.

Even in my twenties, San Francisco meant nothing to me. But once I reached my thirties, that began to change. Just five or six years ago, I began to follow my interests in specific musicians online. I had not been able to do so previously, due to having no access to the internet. I started using the computers at a Sydney museum, and then at the local library, and eventually bought my own home PC. One musician lead to another, and I ended up becoming very involved with the music scene of San Francisco.

By 2005, I had written a book about the Bay Area music, gotten involved with my second San Franciscan lover, and began a new collection of music from that specific area. I also had found my new favorite band from that city - Madelia. I realized that nearly all my friends lived there. It seemed my whole life was headed that way, despite only having spent a few days there. From this time onwards, I have longed to go back, following my initial visit in 1999. My body may dwell in Australia, but I know where my heart lives and where I hope to retire!

Many years after the original hearing, I heard this song again. Now, when I hear the song, I smile. I love this city!
