At the end, but...

I was losing faith in my partner. After several years of a solid, strong and spiritual commitment, I had discovered that he had gotten himself married to someone else without even telling me. At the time, that mattered considerabely to me. These days, I am more open-minded and would just want to join in after being hurt that I had not been told, but at that time, I was devastated. He then told me that he was soon divorcing her, but...

The plan had been for him to marry me - eventually. He had not even told me there had been someone else as well; that was what hurt the most. It was when he failed to show up for a specific event that he had promised to share with me, that I finally dropped him. I still cared, but he had promised one thing too much that he had failed to provide.

At the same time, I was getting interested in the music scene of San Francisco and a half dozen or so of its musicians. I was losing interest in the popular chart music. The underground Bay Area scene seemed much more promising and talented. Initially, it was only a couple of performers that drew my interest away from the top forty. It was not long before my entire musical interest slipped that way, though. These days, 90% of the music I play comes from thae city of San Francisco.

This shift in musical preference also shifted my taste in men towards those dwelling in the same area. I dropped my interests in my seven-year failed partnership for a strong new friendship. It was not to lead to partnership, but the friendship alone - along with the music - kept me happy. At this stage, before meeting my current partner, the words from the song 'End Of The Road' seemed more appropriate to me. It was the end of the road for my romantic dreams and hopes, yet I was staying strong with increasing friendships instead. The end of one road, but not of all.
