madeliaette | MEMORY FROM 2003 At last, we meetLOCATION: Our Home , Wollongong, NSWYEAR: 2003TAGS: gift, visitor, t-shirtPUBLISHED: March 14, 2008I have had various pen pals over the years, since the age of eight. I have also met quite a number of these. On one occasion, I had a pen friend come to stay with us. We had never met, but we had corresponded for around twenty years. We met at Sydney central railway station, and after a visit to the National Australian Museum, took the train down south to our home in Wollongong. When unpacking and settling into the spare room, which is now the study in which I am currently sitting, our friend handed me a few goodies as a gift for having her stay with us. Amongst the goodies were three T-shirts. One of these was printed Route 66. Being an Australian citizen, formerly of the UK, I had no idea of what Route 66 was. After some time, I discovered that it was a TV show, a road, and also a song! It may have taken me a while to understand the background to my gift, but I still wear the tee today. I often wear it in bed along with a pair of boxers. It inevitably reminds me of both my friend coming to stay with us and this song.
