Answering the question

When anybody asks me if I like Michael Jackson's music, I usually reply that I do not really enjoy that style. Sometimes I will elaborate and give further detail, explaining what I prefer, or why his music does not appeal to me personally. As most of my conversations relating to music are with musicians who play in current band, I generally turn the topic into their music, which tends to interest me more. However, on occasion, someone might press me further to talk about Michael Jackson.

Looking over the decades at the music Michael has performed, there are only one or two tunes that I actually liked. He had a song in the 90's that I enjoyed watching on TV music videos, but otherwise the only song I ever liked of his was Ben. I did not even know he was the singer until recent years. I used to play the song on a 1970's compilation disc a long time ago, and for some reason, it stuck in my head. I liked the slower ballads in my childhood and teens, and the song appealed. It was not until hearing it on radio that I learned that it was one of Michael's though. I was quite surprised. It was completely different to his 90's work and I found it difficult to accept he had performed such a different style.

I was glad to have learned that it was his song, though. It was only a week or two after the radio informed me it was one of his songs that a friend asked me my favorite Michael Jackson song. I was able to give an answer other than that I did not like any of them. I do not often hear the track now, but I can still hear it in my head whenever I think of Michael, or when I am questioned about his music.
