madeliaette | MEMORY FROM 1988

3 out of 3 is better

I have some bad memories involving music, but not very many. Most of my miserable memories stem from a former relationship that turned sour. When it began, I did not follow any of the modern music, but played many ballads from the 1970's. My former colleague had completely different tastes in music, as well as most other things. On occasion, he did like a song from the 1970's, but I still did not like his taste in music.

When it was his turn to play music, he played many songs that I did not like very much, one of which was Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad. I did not like these lyrics at all. They really upset me. I thought it imperative that all three areas should be filled, not just two! It did not seem like a proper love if it was only partial. I expect this reaction of mine comes from my being black or white, never gray. This point always stuck in my way and I never have enjoyed the song. I did not bother seeing if I liked the tune or band, I hated the lyrics so would take no interest at all. My former friend played it several times. As our relationship soured, he even sung it sometimes, especially to stir me up or to hurt me.

Nowadays, I am glad that he forced the song into my mind and sung it to me. That relationship is well and truly ended on my part and it more than proved my point. In my own case, two out of three was very bad, terminal in fact. When I hear the tune these days, after a brief flash of pain over my past, I smile. My current relationship has a complete love and scores three out of three.
