In my opinion, I feel as if hip-hop was in its ultimate prime during the early to mid 90s. The music was great, the lyrical content was on point, and everyone was speaking on real life experiences that people could relate to. Artists werent afraid to be themselves. And thats what made me fall in love with hip-hop.

Even to this day, the greatest song of all time, to me is They Reminisce over You by Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth. Pete Rocks usage of the sample and the corresponding instruments was perfect, and C.L.s lyrics seemed to have the ability of feeding off the power of the music, in order to tell a story that touched listeners hearts. I used to listen to the radio for hours in hopes of the stations playing that song. When my father bought the single for me, my face glowed with amazement as I couldnt wait to play it in the cassette deck. I listened to and rewound the song over and over and over again that night in my bedroom, jumping up and down while rapping with the song as if I was on stage with the artists performing in front of a huge crowd. As you can see, this was one of numerous times I visualized myself performing for audiences; a dream that I am actually turning into reality at the present time.

*sigh* I wish there were more mainstream artists like this in existence now. Nowadays I dont even feel like turning on the radio and hearing the nonsense out here that people consider hot on the airwaves.
