The 80’s was a very exciting period for me when it came to music. During this time frame you had more than a handful of artists that came out with outstanding albums containing more than one song on the Billboard charts. These same songs had the ability to speak to you during any experience you may have had in life, be it good or bad. For me, a lot of hits that came out during my childhood fell under the category of good experiences. Especially when it came to having fun with family.

My most memorable family moment was when I would visit my father on the weekends. Whenever he had stressful days at work, he would take time out and play his records to ease his mind and feel good. He would do the same thing whenever I came to visit. Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album came out during the late 80’s and I was excited when dad bought the record. The title cut was so energetic, so innovative and so musically raw that you couldn’t help but to dance to it. No matter how many times we would listen to the entire album (which was another plus for a hit record if you could listen to it from start to finish without skipping through songs), my dad and I had to listen to “Bad”. I felt like I was Michael Jackson singing the song and doing the moves in the music video!

My parents still have a few pictures they took of me dancing to the music. Every time I look at them, it takes me back to that Forest Creek apartment complex in Maryland where my love for music started.
