Peter Sarstedt, “Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)”LOCATION: Peace Center Parking Lot , Greenville, SCYEAR: 2007TAGS: ABKCOPUBLISHED: September 10, 2008Believe it or not, but not even a naked, bruised Natalie Portman will distract you from this beautiful, erudite song used in both Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited and the 13 minute prelude film Hotel Chevalier. Originally released in 1969 (it had to share the Ivor Novello Award with Bowie’s “Space Oddity), it’s Sarstedt, his guitar, an accordion and a few strings telling the tale of one Marie-Claire from her humble Italian beginnings to her present Parisian jet setting. Name dropping everything from The Stones to Sacha Distel to the topless swimsuit in the process, we’re left wondering if Marie-Claire, despite all the glitz and glamour, is really truly happy – perfect fodder for a Wes Anderson flick.
