Dave Matthews, “Eh Hee”LOCATION: 3045 Sigmund Circle , Columbia, SCYEAR: 2007TAGS: RCAPUBLISHED: September 10, 2008With the possible exception of Manfred Mann, Steve Nash or Nadine Gordimer, it’s hard to trust someone from Africa who isn’t Black. They always seem to have some sort of ulterior motive. But in this exclusive single for Steve Jobs’s on-line repository, the burgeoning actor is all types of sincerity. The East meets West dialectic is decidedly pronounced here (the untranslatable, at least to Romance rules, “Eh hee yeah amana ya yeah a yeah eh eh amana” appears no less than 18 times in 4.5 minutes), but Matthews errs on the side of English when it counts. “We’re just a collection of cells overrating ourselves,” he exclaims. Lest you think he’s merely positing some arcane existentialism, D.M. then offers the following Gospel-like militancy: “I’m gonna drop the devil to his knees.”
