When everything became differentLOCATION: The Greyhound bus , Portland,ORYEAR: 2002TAGS: AmandaPUBLISHED: August 3, 2008My sister had just moved to Portland for school. I was still home, at high school, trying to pretend that I was not sad. I was trying to look like I didnt mind that my best friend had been whisked away to start her own new fresh life. THis is starting out very sappy, I know- but as my first posted memory I deemed it necessary for it to be a crucial one. Back to the story. I spent every weekend with her, taking the Greyhound bus up because I had not yet gotten my license. I remember the things we would do, the midnight adventures in the beautifully lit, rainy Portland streets. The random trips to NW 23rd to only gaze at the trendy high fashion clothes draped over tiny mannequins. Ideas and memories that would be just that-memories as soon as I stepped on the Greyhound bus every Sunday afternoon at 6pm. Coincidentally, we would both have the Shins "Oh, Inverted World" playing simultaneously on our walkmens. We would cry parting ways, even though we knew it would only be another week before we shared those adventures again. The same feelings are evoked every time I hear that song. My sister still lives in Portland, but we rarely speak. Perhaps the emotion that is brought to me when I hear it is resentment?
