To My One True Love

I have always appreciated the English language- such a rich exclusively human mode of communication primarily spoken in many countries worldwide. Not only did I appreciate the beauty of the language, I strived to enhance my skills with each passing year. I just love metaphors unlike idioms, similes and other figurative expressions I believe metaphors 'hit the nail on the head'. Not only did I realise their significance in Literature I saw how I could apply metaphors in my personal life.

During the first few weeks of my gap year I feel in-love with a fire-fighter. For months on end I had been trying to show him just how much I loved him. None of the poems, cards, letters and gifts managed to capture what was really going on inside of me. For the first time after we had been together for close to six months I tried something different- metaphors of love.

However, neither of the metaphors; fire, food, weather, animals to rightfully expressed the wave of affection I felt for him. I simply wanted to let him know that I love him but these three words proved much harder to show than I had anticipated. Whilst listening to my olden goldies collection I realised that my emotions rested in the Song compiled by the Bee Gees  ‘To love somebody the way I love you’.

That is what I had actually been trying to say. This was my own metaphor for love fortunately there was a song I could use to express what I was trying to say.  I surprised him the very next weekend we went out for a picnic. It was just the two of us and while taking a walk by the lake, I suddenly sang for him.Though the song was primarily intended for a woman, he loved it all the same.
