kudzi | MEMORY FROM 2006

Thank-You For Being You!!

Towards the end of the year people from all parts of the country look back at the previous year for successes, trials, triumphs and tribulations which are evaluated at a personal, community, professional or national level. In 2006 towards the end of the year the executive board members of my firm- a web based company organised an end of year party for members of staff.

For a whole day we were meant to be in casual clothes out in the countryside fishing, hiking and engaging in various other restful activity. A bus was hired to accommodate all of us and the other workers from the remaining divisions. After the drinks, sandwiches and everything else we needed for the day was packed we set off on a two hour drive.

Seeing everyone dressed in shorts and tackies was different, refreshing. It had been a long year and we were all thankful that the company had been winding down operations for the year. When we arrived our boss graced the occasion with some awards. Previously these took the form of ‘worker of the year’ but this time no-one was to walk away empty handed.

Mr Hatcher got a list of the employees from his division called out the names alphabetically shared a few sentiments about the worker, handed out a small gift and then moved on to the next person. When it came to my turn Mr Hatcher, expressed his gratitude in the form of a song. He knew I loved music. I had worked had during the year and he thanked me for showing my true colours- untainted!
