When I was younger as in around age five my family was rather modest. The first house we lived in was located in a medium density suburb not very far from the city's major industries. We lived in a seven roomed house; lounge, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and three bedrooms. There was a cottage enclosed in the same yard, still at foundation level.

My friends and I always found the 'bare' cottage fascinating for reasons only a five year old could easily comprehend. School didn't last long, in fact it was over by midday and after school we would get together. The rest of the afternoon would be spent inside the dug up pits. Before we made our way down we would climb a nearby tree, collect several berries and then make our way into the dug up pits. It was like we were in our own little world.

The six of us would start running around aimlessly sometimes building sand houses, smearing mud all over ourselves, playing hide and seek, reciting the letters of the alphabet, counting numbers, or pretending to take light naps. The excitement was even more intense during the weekends as we would have all day to ourselves.

But the nanny always made sure that I was back home before my parents returned from work. They were sure to find me in my nightgown watching television. There was a dance my friends and I did before bidding farewell. We called it the Locomotion. We all had to do the locomotion before heading back to our respective homes.
