Hello and A Little Something Extra

LOCATION: Lounge , Harare

YEAR: 2002

PUBLISHED: March 6, 2008

My parents have been together for over twenty-years. In fact come June this year, they will be celebrating their silver jubilee. Theirs is what I would call a blessed union- nothing but marital bliss. Well no union is perfect obviously but on the whole I would say they are the envy of most couples. They occasionally go out for dinner at restaurants, hotels, lodges especially when occasion calls.

For instance, to celebrate the success of the family business- a business specializing in the production and selling of computerized gadgets. When I got home one day on a Friday from Drama practice, the maid announced that they had gone for a late night function and would not be home until the early hours of the next day. My sisters and I decided to give them a call- just to let them know that we were okay and of course to wish them a rewarding night. So we got into the main lounge where the answering machine had been placed.

After assuring them that we will be okay for the night, my younger sister had something a little extra. She had always been the naughty one and this time she caught us off unawares. The next thing we heard was the chorus to ‘Too Much Heaven’- Love is beautiful thing coming from her mp3 music player. They just laughed and told us to be good until they returned home the following day. Why not, after all I suppose it was just a small gentle tease and our family has always been known for its good sense of humor except for the eldest who is rather short-tempered.
