Nostalgia... RIP Drew

LOCATION: My old apartment , Tucson

Right now I'm dealing with a loss of a very close friend, Drew Madeiski. When we were 15, he was diagnosed with bone cancer in his knee. He had started khemotherapy, and to support him me and about 20 other shaved our heads and donated it to a wigs for khemo patients charity.

Last night I had a dream of a memory... both are very sweet.

As for the memory, when Drew started khemo he started smoking weed to relieve the pain. So, pretty much every day after school, me, him, my best friend Ben, Jamie, Dan, Paul, and Matt would all come over and smoke... So one day, with Bob Marley being his favorite artist, he said "Yo kyle, put on Jamming by Bob Marley." And so I put it on and watched him roll the worst, sloppiest joint ever. So I intervened, taught him the correct way, and by the end of the song we had started smoking.

The funeral was the 19th, and he died on the 4th after his 3rd battle. So its been a haunting thought to me... how much me and all his friends miss him. He died happy, surfing in long beach, smoking every day, hunting in NorCal, and so on.

So the dream I had took me back to that scene. I was with all my old best friends, a long time ago, way before any of us saw this coming. With the random nature of dreams, other lost friends were there too... I posted another memory about my friend Lynn and how shes gone as well. It was like going back and living it again, being 15 and having everything to live for, and for that moment everything was the way it should be again..
