Since before I was born, my family would rent cottages up north every summer and we would go up for one week. When I was younger, it was exciting for me to actually get to go somewhere, and there were always certain aspects that I desperately looked forward to.

One of them was singing by the bonfire.

Every year my Dad brought along his guitar, even though he claimed to not be able to play very well. To me, he always sounded perfect. We'd sit around and he'd play a few notes until one of us started singing along. So many songs take me right back to those fires, but Fleetwood Mac especially.

I hadn't heard all of the songs he played, so I learned them by listening to him sing them. After awhile, they became as familiar as my own reflection. Little did I know that my father was tone-deaf, and actually didn't sing them correctly at all.

Even though I have learned the correct tune of these songs now they still bring back fond memories of a smokey bonfire, my dad and his guitar, and a younger me feeling peaceful and happy. It's no wonder that the bonfire songs, Dreams especially, have become some of my all-time favourites.
