Ballroom Blitz by Krokus is insane. Then, and now. Seriously, it was one of those songs that just… threw you off. I remember running around my house in a frenzy trying to release every bit of energy in my body and mind to figure out what was going in the song, and, of course, to dance to it. Now, since I was only around 6 at the time, you have to give me some credit, I was at least TRYING to figure out what Krokus was trying to communicate. Note I still fail at doing so to this day, but regardless. The song, in its own whacky way, used to make me exert LOTS of energy. I refused my parents help in figuring out what in the WORLD the song meant, its hidden meanings, or pretty much ANYTHING. The first endeavor I had tried to make without some kind of outside cheat sheet. Ballroom Blitz never really had me drawn in through lyrics, if it’s not already obvious… young age, lack of taking in the general meaning of the song that should’ve had some message in it, or none at all, and my excessive thirst for music.

Rock, I guess you could consider crazy ol’ Krokus to be, was one of my favorite genres at the time, and it still is… for the most part. I thirsted for music mostly because I either wanted something to drown out constant family arguments or because I wanted simply to listen to music. HOWEVER, Krokus was crazy beyond crazy for me at the time. I invented what was to be dubbed and perfected later as the “Krokus face”, which only began as a simple bulging of the eyes and a circular mouth. Later, after people had heard the song, it began to grow into something much more ridiculous, that being said, you can probably tell that this song has stuck with me most of life, so far.

The first time I heard this song was on a radio station… you can probably imagine how thrown I was because I was on a station that had rock on it. 102.9 was my station at the time; the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s song station. Yes, Krokus was on there. Krokus was insane; they sounded good, and began with most CRAZY line. I used to try and hold the “Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Needless to say, I failed to get past the first 4 O’s with my premature voice. I STILL have yet to get past the first few O’s, because Krokus holds it FOREVER, at least compared to what I can hold. So, this song ROCKS; I went out of my way, got it, and have yet to master its crazy.
