My First ConcertLOCATION: Pacific Coliseum , VancouverYEAR: 1979TAGS: Babysitting, Concerts, Parents, Shaun CassidyPUBLISHED: March 8, 2008My teen idol was Shaun Cassidy. I had his records, my room was plastered with his photo and I had a book on him. I was in love the only way a fourteen year old can be with her first major celebrity crush.  One day I heard that Shaun was going to be coming to Vancouver so I excitedly told my parents. My father said fine, if I wanted to go I had to earn the money myself. So I started saving all my babysitting money until I had enough to buy the ticket. He was going to be playing during the PNE – Pacific National Exhibition – an annual event in Vancouver and my parents and younger brother would tour the exhibition while I went to the concert.  My seat was way in the stands and Shaun looked like a moving doll on the stage so far below me. A parent sitting beside me loaned me her binoculars occasionally so that I could actually have a chance to see something. Even when I couldn’t see him though it didn’t matter. I could hear him and I knew that he was down there.  I walked out of the Coliseum happy and even more enthralled with Shaun than ever. The next day I read the paper’s account of the concert and became quite indignant. The reviewer had made the comment that the concertgoers got ‘their parents’ money’s worth’. Little did he know, some of us didn’t have to rely on our parents.   Â
