Blown Away

Musicians have always held a soft spot in my heart. I can’t help it. One fellow I was dating sang in a band while going to school during the day taking psychology. Most weekends I would go wherever and do whatever he wanted but one day I surprised him.

I announced that I was going to go to see a friend of mine’s band on the Friday night then on Saturday I was going to go see Brighton Rock. He was welcome to come if he wanted but I was going. He started asking why would I want to go see Brighton Rock? They were just a pop band, nothing special. I didn’t care what he said, I was going. He decided to go with me.

When Brighton Rock took the stage and Gerald McGhee began singing, my boyfriend sat there, stunned. He later told me that he hadn’t realized how good the vocals were, that McGhee had almost convinced him to quit singing since he didn’t think he would ever be able to match that. Not that it was that important to me, but I proved to him that I knew music.
