Better SeatsLOCATION: Saddledome , CalgaryYEAR: 1990TAGS: nervous, Bowie, seating, snowstormPUBLISHED: April 20, 2008
In 1990 David Bowie was touring with the Sound & Vision tour and he came to Calgary. I got to the ticket vendor at about six am and there was a long line up. I was buying tickets for one of my girlfriends, my boyfriend and I. Unfortunately the seats I got were on the ground level behind the entire population on the floor. I was disappointed, I couldn’t see anything that well. But my boyfriend took care of me.
An entire section on the left hand side of the stage was vacant. (We later found out that the seats had been sold to a group that resided over the mountain pass and because of a snowstorm, the group hadn’t been able to make the concert) My boyfriend grabbed my hand and my friend followed as he led us to better viewing. I was nervous and made him sit on the end seat just in case an official asked for our tickets. An official did ask to see our tickets but my boyfriend managed to get us out of that. The woman wasn’t too insistent either.
The concert was great! David puts on a fabulous show and since I could now see it all, I was in heaven. No wonder he has been around for so long. The funniest thing was when he was singing “Suffragette City” and it came to the part where he was supposed to say ‘Wham, bam thank you ma’am’. There was a slight pause, almost as if David had forgotten the words. But that couldn’t be. Could it?
