Ouch.LOCATION: Virginia Tech Gym , Blacksburg, VAYEAR: 2007TAGS: I'm a Bomb, Natasha BedingfieldPUBLISHED: June 1, 2008Cheerleading practice. A day gone horribly wrong. One awfully snowy day, I was on a bus after class getting ready to pick up my cheer clothes at my apartment and get to practice, when stopped at a red light a car slid down a hill right into the side of my bus. Luckily no one was hurt but naturally it delayed my travels, and I stood out in the snow for what seemed like hours waiting for the next bus so I could at least catch some of practice, as it was almost competition season, and the team that would compete at nationals would soon be picked. I knew I had no shot but being the disgustingly optimistic person I am there was a little small miniscule glimmer of hope lingering in my head. I finally get to practice, and we start learning a halftime routine for some basketball game we were going to cheer at, and the coach unveils the music we're doing the routine to, which is also the nationals routine music...and what is in the mix but Natasha's "I'm a Bomb!" I was elated that I wasn't the only one in town that knew about the hidden gem that is Natasha Bedingfield. We're practicing stunts, and I am told to help catch someone after two boys throw her in the air and she flips (I'm obviously sparing you from cheerleading terminology), and the unthinkable happens...she's thrown too little, and someone flips RIGHT into my right hand, severely dislocating my right pointer finger. Somehow I managed to be completely calm, and knowing that most people would have been squeemish about seeing it, I ran across the mat asking for the trainer while covering up my hand so no one would freak out. To describe how it looked, basically if I were holding my hand out to signal someone to stop, the top half of my finger would have been pointing directly at myself. It was HILARIOUS haha, I really wish I had gotten a picture. I found the athletic trainer, and he popped it back into place with the guidance of the school's doctor VIA telephone. The doctor drove to school to xray my hand that night, athletes are treated so well there. Didn't look broken although there was a questionable spot. I still have problems with my finger to this day, I can't bend it as far as my other fingers and it hurts sometimes, but it reminds me of that crazy day when I heard the routine mix and was overly excited about Natasha being included in it :)
