We were both in the drama Department at LASOTA, and we both liked good music. One day, when we were in Improv, she started singing something about "Betty can't quit carving question marks in my wrist, how come we're so alone?" and I accosted her because I loved the melody so much. She ended up singing the entire song for me 100 times that day, all day, and I learned the song too.
We sang that song all the time. Eventually it got so old in our tight group of friends that we had to cut down to our favorite verse and, of course, the refrain because, how could you not rock out when you're singing "bust a move, check it our I'm rockin' steady to the beat in my head!?" So Everyday from the middle of seventh, all through 8th grade, after lunch we'd walk out of the cafeteria and walk to Character Analysis class as slowly as we could with highly energized air guitar and drum solos that weren't ever really part of the song.
We parted ways 9th grade, she lives on the other side of the city, aprox. 1 hour and 45 minutes away. She went to the highschool of the arts, and I stayed at the local beaches school because my mother decided that my career wasn't good enough to pay gas prices for. We still occasionally see each other, and everytime we HAVE to listen to The Future Freaks me out by Motion City Soundtrack, because it was what we based our entire friendship on, we ended up sitting outside of a CD store to be the first ones in Jax. to buy the following two Motion City Soundtrack CD's.
Yay for first memories!
