We're Pretty, too

This song reminds me of my friend Margaret from high school and of growing up. Margaret bought Poe’s “Haunted” from a used CD store and after she listened to it she called me immediately. I had to listen to it. This song was so cool, it was a whole different level of cool music.

She brought over the CD. She sang along to “Hey Pretty” and rotated her hips. “Hey pretty, don’t you want to take a ride with me, through my world?” I laughed, but at the same time I was intoxicated with the idea of showing a man “my world”, of speeding down the highway in a convertible, of being a seductress. This song was everything that Margaret and I wanted to be, and at the same time, Poe is innocent enough to realize how silly it can feel to be a kid, wanting to grow up. It is a song I will always associate very much with youth.
