Stan's No Longer MissingLOCATION: Car & Home , Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United StatesYEAR: 2000TAGS: story, obsession, stalking, fans, fame, writing, abuse, drugs, suicide, depressionPUBLISHED: February 16, 2008Prescript... If you read my Dido 'Thankyou' memory, you should already have some indication that I like this song and why. ***** For those of you who haven't, I want you to take the time - right now - to open up a new web tab, bring up a search engine, type in 'Stan lyrics' and click on the very first page that gives you the lyrics. Then, I want you to read them. Then, take the time and search for the music video and WATCH IT. The reasons I like this song is because the music, the video, and the lyrics blend beautifully together into a fantastic and gritty story/mini movie: in this case, one about fans, stalking, obsession, mental instability, depression, drug use, abuse, suicide, and the price and responsibilities of fame; AND because any of the distribution methods/artistic medium (song, video, written lyrics) can stand alone and still be express the theme and create an image of the story in the listener, viewer, or reader's minds. As a writer and an artist the song represented and still does represent what I feel to be truly great story-telling. As I mentioned in my Dido memory, I was a bit upset when this song was taken off of the radio because of it's content and use of "obscene" language to be replaced by seemingly constant replaying of Dido's mainstream 'Thank You' - which only makes up a tiny chorus of this song. Although I also like 'Thankyou' I still get upset to this day as 'Stan' is rarely played - again - replaced by 'Thankyou.' So, the reason that 'Stan' is no longer missing is because: (1) I own this CD and can listen to the song whenever I want...and...(2) a site like this and others make it possible for people to learn about and experience this short story gem...   Â
