A GiftLOCATION: In my bedroom, from my father , Bayonne, NJYEAR: 1980TAGS: gift, father, albumPUBLISHED: February 15, 2008This was a really cool surprise. My family has always been musically inclined. We were always more likely to have music on than the television--a tradition I have passed down to my own daughters. Matter of fact, I don't think they had television till they were in fifth & third grades. Music is everything to the lot of us--meaning my family.  My father knew that and had come home from a trip to NYC with my Mom with "Europe 72" in his hands, just for me. He knew I liked the Grateful Dead (I actually wanted "Shakedown Street" or "Mars Hotel", but that's fine--he was thinking of me). It was totally unexpected and very much unlike him to do this, so when he walked into my room and handed that to me, I was SO touched. Excellent memory, to have been touched in this fashion, especially given the fact that he was a bit of a cold parent. I still have that album, still listen to it pretty much almost daily because it meant so much to me and my favorite song on the album is China Cat Sunflower--although the entire album is fantastic. My older brother would come down from his room in the attic and visit me in my room pretty much on a daily basis, and we'd listen to it together while shooting the breeze. It was and still remains a very happy album with very happy memories attached to it.
