My Mom's Dedication

I was 10-years-old in 1989 and very sure my mother and father were going to get back together. Divorce was just a word I refused to except. I was angry and unforgiving at the time as I'm sure most 10-year-olds would be but I didn't show it. My mother had custody of me but my father was very good about coming and getting me for our every other weekend visits. I missed him terribly. My mother being on her own all of a sudden felt the burden of the finances heavily but she never gave up. She did complain quite a bit about money matters and our hardships but I knew all she needed was a little encouragement and a smile and that's just what I gave her. In turn she would brighten my day all the time by acting silly and singing. She is an excellent singer. I just loved listening to her. One day in the car while singing along to the radio, the song "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler came on. She quickly turned the volume up and said, "This song is dedicated to you sissy!". I had goosebumps. Every word in the song was special to me, to us. It truly meant something. So much in fact I had my mother sing this very song at my wedding in 1997. It was another beautiful moment.
