Break up RedemptionLOCATION: Standing on the side of the road, miles from nowhere. , Traveling Across country.YEAR: 1998TAGS: TravelPUBLISHED: August 11, 2008In the winter of 97/98, I went through a really messy and painful break-up with this girl I had been dating. I decided that I needed a serious change in my life, so I sold and give away a large amount of my stuff and gave up my apartment. I quit smoking and stopped going out to the bars. I moved back in with my parents(Which turned out not to be that bad, actually kinda nice). Saved up a bunch of money and headed out on the "Green Tortoise" that summer. Standing on the side of the road in Nebraska with nothing for miles, I noticed this Yield sign for exiting the rest area we had stopped to make dinner at. I found it pretty funny that they would need a Yield sign for such a dead road. This song started playing in my head. That trip changed my life, because of that break-up I traveled to almost every state and Mexico. I Met a great British girl and traveled europe the next year. That painful break-up ended up being one of the best things to ever happen to me.Whenever I hear this song, I think of how much happiness I gained standing on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere. Staring a Yield sign. "and he still gives his love he just gives it away" Thanks Ed.
