A song about a place - to come

LOCATION: Tittabawassee River , Saginaw Township, Michigan

YEAR: 2008

TAGS: premonition, fate, destiny

PUBLISHED: March 16, 2008

There is a lower part of the Tittabawassee River, just before it meets with the Shiawassee River to form the Saginaw River, where it gets flooded each spring without fail. The only way to get to this area is a single street called Riverside, and there actually are about 10 homes down there. It is a very picturesque location for 11 and a half months out of the year, and underwater for 2 weeks every March.

Sediments from the Tittabawassee River settle on these properties every spring, and unfortunately they are contaminated with high levels of dioxin. Its a difficult issue that I now deal with in my job. A co-worker and I had to sample the sediments from this area, and out of the blue, as we were developing the Riverside sampling workplan, the memory of this song hit me like a frieght train. 157 Riverside Avenue by REO was one of my favorite songs when I was in highschool and studying in college. REO was also the first band I ever saw in concert, and 157 Riverside Avenue is a classic staple of their live set.

Its kind of spooky to me to think that "157 Riverside Avenue", 28 years later....was a premonition of things that were destined to come........

"The Saginaw Rivers flowin - Mother Natures colors were showin,
So cold, so rainy, we could'nt help feeling blue,
Not enough time, too many things to do....."

As for the song, I have great memories of jamming to this tune with a junior high buddy sitting pool side one summer. Love the "do-do-do-do doooo" verbal guitar solo part. Great post.
