Billie JeanLOCATION: Home , New OrleansYEAR: 1983TAGS: Moonwalk, music, MotownPUBLISHED: May 1, 2008Michael Jackson’s song “Billie Jean” holds significant meaning for me as well as many others in the world. The night of March 25, 1983 Michael Jackson appeared on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today and Forever was absolutely unforgettable. At first, he appeared singing with his Jackson brothers, then he took the stage by himself. I’ll never forget my excitement as I sat watching with my friends and it seemed like we were watching something that was impossible. He started slowly dancing at first to “Billie Jean” and his moves were impeccable. I remember trying to call my friends to tell them to turn on their televisions because they would never see anything like this again. To me, Michael’s performance on that show was one of the greatest performances I’ll ever witness in my lifetime. He truly set himself apart from his brothers and watching his confidence was extraordinary. The people in the audience seemed as excited as I was at home watching and cheering him on. When Michael broke into his famous “Moonwalk” the entire auditorium lost it. Everyone stood and gave him a well-deserved standing ovation. With his fedora and sequined glove, he moved across that stage like he owned it. Michael Jackson made the world stand at attention that night and sucked his entire audience into his performance with him. That moment I will never forget as long as I live and I’m certain others won’t forget it as well.
