All About My Dad

Most of my early music memories are about my father, because my mum really doesn't like music. I say that, she listens to Neil Diamond. In my books, that does not count as music. So here's another of my memories of my Dad.

My Dad loves Queen. Really loves them. No, really, really loves them. To my father, Queen is appropriate for any emotion and any occasion. One of my earliest memories is of him dancing around on Christmas morning to Radio Ga Ga - because to my Dad Queen is superior to any Christmas music that exists. Queen will probably be played at his funeral.

Ironically, he can be a bit of a homophobe (Let's not talk about how his favourite movie is Cabaret. Yes, seriously. It's a wonder I was ever born). My dad is often a walking contradiction, my mother and I have just had to get used to it.

I've never been a huge Queen fan myself (possibly due to overexposure), however I have recently found some affection for You're My Best Friend - which my Dad sings to me because as he says, it's true. Often when I hear this song I throw my arms around one of my close friends and think about how lucky I am to have them - I have an amazing network of friends. Maybe we're all a bit too co-dependant, and love each other a little bit too much - but that's what makes this song even more appropriate.
