TAGS: Popmart, Mexico, U2PUBLISHED: October 9, 2008I was 10 years old when Joshua Tree came out, and for years I wondered what it would be like to see them live. 10 years later, I was able to see them for the first time during the Popmart tour. But not only did my cousin and I get very lucky to get a couple of tickets, but we found out that this was to be taped and televised LIVE across Mexico via satellite. You can imagine our excitement as we consider to be true and devoted fans to the band. I went into the concert with no expectation, hearing mixed reviews from the Las Vegas show where they opened, only to find myself in one of the most wonderful environments you can be in during a concert of this magnitude. You can see for yourself in the DVD; Mexico open its arms and gave the band its undivided attention, its loud singing voices for them to hear, and its heart. The moment The Edge played those three wonderful opening notes to ONE, tears came down my face as we heard Bono dedicate this song to his dear friend Michael Hutchence. It was moving from beginning to end. New Year's Day was a true Christmas treat for the band as they turned the lights off and let Mexico light the stadium with flashing lighters as they moved to Larry's rhythm. I still get chills thinking about it. The world stopped for me during that concert and I will never forget it. I also got lucky enough to have the full taped version of this concert (on VHS) including speeches by Bono and mistakes by The Edge that you will never see in the DVD version out today. :) PRICELESS!
