Christmas 1959.  I had been very, very sure my parents knew I wanted a record player for Christmas.  Very sure!!!  And there it was on Christmas morning.  I was 11 years old.  It was a record player most have never seen.  It was in a little suitcase affair, turquoise in color (how 50's is THAT?).  I could play 45's or 33's on it.

The records my parents selected to go with it were:

Running Bear (loved little White Dove)

Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley - Kingston Trio

And the Chipmunk Song - ALVIN!!!!

By nightfall, my parents were sure of two things:  Every word of every song on those records and that they should have bought MORE records!!!  But I was so happy with my Christmas present that year and they definitely knew it.

I'm sure my parents were glad they'd waited so they did't have to listen to a record of "The Witchdoctor" or "The One-eyed, One-horned Flying Purple People Eater". Trips down memory land are always nice. Glad you liked the trip. (3/17/2008)
