I am inspired by Alejandro Escovedo, one of the most thoughtful, talented, and versatile musicians ever. A critics' darling and a favorite of other artists (from Lucinda Williams to Bruce Springsteen to David Byrne and Patti Smith), Alejandro's songwriting skills are stunning. Listening to confessionals such as "Broken Bottle" and "Thirteen Years" to balls-to-the-wall rockers like "Sacramento & Polk" and "Castanets," Alejandro has something to offer to everybody. He's seen it all, from opening for the Sex Pistols with his band, The Nuns, in 1977, to hanging with Iggy Pop and living in the Chelsea Hotel in the 1970s to kickstarting the alt-country movement with his band, Rank and File. Almost dying from acute Hepatitis only made him stronger and his best years are clearly ahead of him. I can't urge you strong enough to do yourself a favor and take a listen. And if he comes to a town near you, by all means, GO! His live performance will mezmerize you and most definitely convert you. Long live Alejandro!
