Make It Stop, Celine DiamondLOCATION: 550 Madison Avenue, New York CityYEAR: 1998TAGS: Celine Dion, Neil Diamond, WorkPUBLISHED: December 7, 2007While working at a record company, there was a time when an executive would get a very early copy of a song or album and blast it very loudly from their office with the door open. At times, it was a great way to hear new music... music no one had except for maybe five people on the planet, literally straight from the studio. It could be very exciting, especially for an eagerly anticipated follow-up from an artist you closely followed.
I remember being in my office towards the end of a day with my co-worker, Pete. I believe he was telling me about his efforts to get Bauhaus concert tickets, when all of a sudden we heard the unmistakable sound of "My Heart Will Go On". Was someone blasting it as a joke? But then we realized it was a man singing it. And that man, was Neil Diamond. We went into the hallway and shouted "Turn that crap off!" towards the office blasting it, and started giggling like Beavis & Butthead. Then all of a sudden my boss bolted out of his office and approached us. "You guys think you're pretty funny, huh?" We giggled. "Well, Neil is in that office with his manager, so try and go somewhere else."

MaryBethEllis said: Dave Barry wrote a column about ten years ago in which he mocked The Diamond, and he is STILL getting hate mail. This is further proof: No matter what you do to keep Neil Diamond down, he will somehow manange to boomerang it right back atcha... even without trying. His powers are frightening. May he only use them for good. (2/9/2008)
David said: Much respect for Neil. I just think the one-two punch of Celine Diamond is an overpowering combo. (2/12/2008)
