Enjoy The SilenceLOCATION: Everywhere, McAllen, TXYEAR: 1990TAGS: Depeche Mode, Friends, High SchoolPUBLISHED: December 7, 2007Depeche Mode brings up an odd assortment of memories for me. I was introduced to them primarily by my friend Adam, my favorite Mormon, in high school. We used to collect their CD singles of remixes and B-sides pretty religiously... they were also a staple when my dorky friends and I would DJ the dances at his church... go figure.
At my last job, a girl in my department once came up to me and said that she has a friend who needs some basic tech work done on his computer system in his apartment and would I help him out... I said sure? and it turned out to be a very nice fellow named Jonathan Kessler, who is the band's "spiritual advisor" and de-factor manager. Incredibly warm guy and happy to know him. Through him, I've gotten excellent seats at their shows, hung backstage at Madison Square Garden with the band and hangers-on (including a creative hero of mine, Anton Corbijn) and then went back with the group to their after-after party at a Trump hotel... pseudo-rockstar for a night. I love the bulk of their catalog, but I admit my listening to them has died down since the Violator album was playing as I totaled my car some years back.
