Opening Number

I was in a dance troupe when I was a kid, along with my sister. The troupe did a spring show in '93 and the opening number was a dance to this song. In the front was one of the dancer girls dressed like a bum, begging and pleading to the performers posed as regular people walking on stage, while there were three girls in the back who would dance during the chorus while the front scene would freeze. I really wished I could have been in that opening number, but I was too little at the time.It was so powerful even as I watched it in rehearsal. One line in the song really got to me: 'She's got blisters on the soles of her feet, she can't walk but she's trying.' I think it was one of my all-time favorite numbers of that entire show. I can still remember the lights, and watching the dancers in back, and the smoke on the stage. I have never forgotten that opening number, and I don't think I ever will.
