What can a can of peas accomplish?

What can a can of peas accomplish? A can of peas can fill the empty stomach of a poor child. A can of peas can make a casserole taste even more yummy. Or it can get Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys come to your school to perform. At least it could in the fall of 2002, when KissFM had a contest between all the high schools in the southeast corner of the state. The school that supplied the most canned goods would get a concert by Nick Carter. I wasn't a big fan of this guy, but I do have a little bit of a competitive spirit, so I decided to donate a bag or two of stuff from my house.

Our school won by a mile. I'm not sure if this was because of our overwhelming generosity, or because everyone else was selfish or lacking in Nick Carter fans. Or both. But anyway, the concert really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and YES I went. It's a free concert, why wouldn't I go? He's actually a pretty entertaining performer. The pictures that I took from that night didn't turn out, except for maybe the ones of my friends. And I don't remember much about being in the audience, except that I had this really tall girl right in front of me and that some random guy I didn't know came up behind me and put his arm around my shoulders. That was a little creepy. I also remember that there was another person who performed, but I can't recall who it was. Some rap group I think.

The memory may be vague, but I do know that I had a lot of fun that night.
