So... This Is Christmas?LOCATION: campground banquet hall , Kenosha, WI, USAYEAR: 2004TAGS: piano, christmas, party, music, karaokePUBLISHED: March 9, 2008Every year, my family seems to get more and more people added into it. Marriages, babies, boyfriends, whatever, and that means that there's more people showing up for get-togethers. One year, nobody could decide whos house to have our Christmas celebration at, so my aunt and uncle decided to have it at a banquet hall at the camp ground where they worked. The hall was split into two rooms. There was a big room with heavy wood tables and a piano in the corner, where we all ate, and then there was a room off to the side that had a ping pong table, a small stage, some chairs and a big painting of Jesus up on the wall. Most of the adults never saw the second room, but all my cousins and I retired to it after the meal and presents were done. We had our own little party in there. My younger cousin had gotten a karaoke machine as a gift, and she was dying to show it off, so she brought it with and we used it to play cd's. After a while everyone got bored and so she put in the karaoke cd that came with it, and just about everyone had a turn singing up on the little stage. When it was my turn I picked Get This Party Started by Pink, since it was one of the few songs on the cd I knew. That was the first time anyone other than my immediate family really heard me singing, other than maybe a little hum now and then. But after everyone had had a turn, and the very un-Christmassy feeling Christmas party came to an end, the kids that were still there went over to the other room and we played with the piano. None of us knew how to really play anything, so it pretty much sounded like noise, but I remember once when I sat down there, I just started randomly hitting keys and I suppose it sounded like something, because my cousin asked me how long I'd been playing. That kinda made my week in a very small way.
