When I hear this song, I think of my younger cousin. If I'm allowed to pick favorites, I'd say she's my favorite cousin because in the early Fall of 2002, Her family moved into my family's house, which is good, that house was much too big for just the four of us, and she became like a sister to me more than a cousin. The little sister I always wanted. :)

But while she was living there, I finally began to understand what it was like for her to live with her father, who is actually her stepfather, although he did raise her since she was a baby. But ever since he had his "real" daughter with my aunt, he has treated her very harshly, strictly, unfairly, whatever you want to call it. Like she's not as important to him as his other daughter.

This song is the perfect song to describe her feelings toward her father, and whenever I hear it I get a little misty, especially when it gets to the part where it says, "Don't you know you used to be my hero." I can even identify with that line. Wow... is she really graduating from high school this year? NOW I'm going to cry for sure.
