This is a song that all the cool people were listening to back in seventh grade, before more than half of them even knew what it meant for a guy to get spr*ng. But the song sounded cool, and the guys in the band were cute, so whatever, they listened to it. I did admit already that back then I was a follower and wanted to listen to all the cool kids' music, so one day I want out and got the single for this song, which was basically what all my first CD's were, since I knew those songs already ANd they were cheaper than getting a whole album of songs you don't know if you'll like. That's parent logic, anyway. And probably how I've come to be so frugal as well.

But that CD and my new discman were the reason I discovered it was cool to stay in the car when your parents went into stores. you stay out in the car and listen to your music, looking hip with your headphones on, and seeing how high you can turn up the volume without causing immediate damage. This was something my brother'd mastered by that time. I also discovered that it really did hurt him to pull on one side and let it snap back because suddenly he started paying me back for it.

It's still a controversy with my siblings whether in the first line of the first verse the singer says "tongue ring" or "toe ring." I vote tongue ring, but I seriously don't want to know the answer, because it's too much fun to argue over.
