Singing is one of those things that, if it were taken from me, I'd lose more than half of my identity. So when in choir, there is a competition that happens in Wisconsin every year called the WSMA competition where you prepare a piece of music, either by yourself or with a group, and you perform it in front of judges to get rated on your skill. For the 2005 competition, I signed up to do a duet with one girl, and then I was practicing with three other girls to do the sond "Mr. Sandman" a capella as a female barbershop quartet. I remember that we had one girl in the group who was borderline tone-deaf, and she was going to be doing the main melody in the piece. We tried to nicely convince her that another part would be suited better for her range, but she wouldn't give up the spot. Ultimately, that's the reason why we decided not to perform that song, although we just said it was because none of us could find time to practice.
