Aussie Invasion TourLOCATION: The Rave, Milwaukee, WI, USAYEAR: 2004TAGS: eagles ballroom, the rave, jet, music, crowd, fun, stage, fansPUBLISHED: February 11, 2008Jet is one of my favorite bands thus far in life, so needless to say, I was overjoyed to learn they'd be stopping pretty close to home to perform. I had only been to The Rave once before, and that was two years previous for a Good Charlotte concert in the Eagles Ballroom section of the building, which is actually a beautiful room. But that's a memory for another time. The show was good, and Jet was the headliner of the "Aussie Invasion" as they called the tour, after The Living End, who I'd never heard of, but enjoyed the performance very much, and ahead of The Vines, who my brother and I didn't stay for. The best part of a concert, for me, is the point in a show when the performer has really, truly captured the audience and you can sort of feel the connection between the two like an umbellical chord from a mother to an infant, but less disgusting. That point was reached about a little more than halfway through the set when they came to a song which had only recently been released, "Look What You've Done." Two layers of people, the floor (Me and my brother were right next to the stage) and the balcony, began swaying together when the first few notes resonated from the stage, and cell phones lit up all around in the place of lighters which are no longer allowed inside. The light from the cell phones gave the room an erie blue glow that shifted from side to side with the crowd which, for once, sounded good singing along with the band. These few short minutes are what made me suddenly start craving the stage again at fifteen years old, and still is what inspires me to keep going up onstage even though I'm a completely shy person who loathes public speaking. Impressive for a newbie band, huh? I think so.
