A Strange Four MinutesLOCATION: In the car., Lake Geneva, WI, USAYEAR: 2006TAGS: confusion, upsetting, music, eminem, crying, car, rapPUBLISHED: February 10, 2008Every now and then a song will come out that, for reasons you can't quite explain, are so perfectly aligned with your soul that you're simply attached to it. As long as I'd known he existed, I enjoyed Eminem's music. I wasn't a fan, exactly, mainly because my mother would never let me have one of his albums as a kid, but my older brother had some music of his, so I was exposed to it anyway. This particular song came out at a time that was a little unstable for me, since I was moving away from the area of the state I had known all my life, as well as my best friends, and one of those friends was in the military and had just gone overseas again that week. One night on a typical errand with my mother, we were driving down the highway in Lake Geneva when this song came on the radio. Suddenly in mid sentence I stopped speaking and listened to the music for a moment. My eyes welled up with tears, and my chin started quivering. My mother stared at me for a second and she reached to turn down the music and asked me what was wrong. I couldn't speak, so I mouthed the words "What are you doing?" and turned the music back up. There were an awkward couple of minutes then, as I sat, hunched over, sobbing into my hands, and my mother, just driving along, mind boggled. I can't explain what exactly caused this little fit, but I suppose it's understandable, being such an emotional song.

You do realize this song is about a guy who's always gone from his family,...
Yeeeees. I know that. But like I said, I don't necessarily think it was the words that got me, I think it was the music behind it. Or something. I don't know. lol (3/13/2008)
