Midnight Movie Runs

Many people have had a friend that you're suddenly drawn to. Although they've always been there on the sidelines, they've never really been what most would call a good friend. In one instant all that can change, and the person becomes your best friend, someone you'd trust with anything. Even though we'd been friends for years, my best friend and I didn't really become close until our freshman year of college. With both of us having the same odd sense of humor and kooky quirkiness, it was inevitable that we would start hanging out more frequently.Soon the weekly events turned into every night get-togethers, and eventually progressed into what we liked to call Midnight Movie Runs.

Cody was never one to wait unnecessarily, especially where his Star Wars was concerned. He'd wait in line for hours just to be the first one among his friends to see the latest Star Wars flick, and he frequently special-ordered movies so he wouldn't have to wait for American release dates.

One night in particular, my roommate and I were slumbering peacefully in our beds. As peacefully as a college student can possibly be, at any rate. The phone rang and, as usual, my roommate didn't wake up. She'd sleep through our frequent fire alarms (there should be a course on properly cooking popcorn, we decided), and the phone was no exception. I answered it sleepily, knowing who was probably going to be on the line. Sure enough it was Cody and he was waiting outside.

This was the first Midnight Movie Run of many, and we were on a mission. Cody wanted a movie, and it was being released at midnight. As we walked back a couple of hours later, we were invigorated despite actually falling asleep outside the store. There is nothing quite like a cool summer's night with the world to yourself. As we were crossing the street, a car whizzed by, blasting 'Grand Theft Autumn' from its discount speakers. That was all it took for us to be singing at the top of our lungs, running through the streets of our little college town.
