Rhapsody at MidnightLOCATION: Living room , Carpentersville, ILYEAR: 1977TAGS: queen, bohemian rhapsody, midnight specialPUBLISHED: May 16, 2008I can't remember the exact year this memory is from. I was about 5 or 6 years old, so sometime in the late 70's. There was that show, The Midnight Special, that was on tv. I was sleeping (well, I was supposed to be sleeping, anyway), on my grandma's couch and the tv was on. They always left it on for me because I was still afraid of the dark. I remember watching The Midnight Special one night, and Queen was on. I had never heard them before, but I was totally enthralled by their performance. I fell in love with them on the spot, singing about Scaramouche, Galileo and Beelzebub. I had no idea what those words were, but I didn't care. The music just crept into my soul and latched on, and I was never the same again. I remember the next day, my mom came to pick me up and she had the radio on in the car. Bohemian Rhapsody came on and I squealed with joy, turned it up and started (trying to) sing along. She looked at me like I was crazy, then started singing along as well. Afterwards, she asked where I had heard that song, and I told her. She yelled at me for staying up so late, but later she played her Queen records for me. Even though I got in trouble, it is a great memory for me. I really miss that tv show and that era. Music was just music, fun and carefree.
