Walking in SpaceLOCATION: high school , monterey, caYEAR: 1992TAGS: 1960s, high school, fantasy, soundtrackPUBLISHED: June 11, 2008Walking in Space (aka- embarrassingly specific memories of a time where I drifted a lot between my real life and my fantasy life) Fantasies I had that involved the Hair Soundtrack: I get drafted, and then I tell Uncle Sam to go fuck himself (never mind that I am a 16 year old girl and it is 1992) I'm at an open mike night or similarly informal musical event and someone is like, "hey, does anyone know all the lyrics to Frank Mills", and I shyly respond "I do" and give a mind numbing performance. Related fantasy: someone misquotes the lyrics to Air at a party, and I politely but assertively correct them. Variation on this: somebody asks about the differences between the Broadway recording and the off-Broadway recording of Hair. Funny that they should ask, I happen to be an expert on this particular subject. Most boring fantasy that I actually spent a decent amount of time on: I meet fellow Hair fans and bond with them over the highs and lows of the Hair soundtrack. They find me charming, deep, funny, and interesting. Most normal fantasy (???): I am actually starring in the most recent production of Hair, it is my first role (nobody knew I could act!), and the critics will not shut up about what a brilliant genius I am. To think those 2 weeks before I had just been a regular high school girl, who stayed up late dreaming of boys and procrastinating on homework assignments.
