The coolest guy in the world

When I was 12, my parents let me go visit my big brother when we was in the air force. It was my first time flying without them but I was so damn excited to see my brother, I wasn't scared at all.

I IDOLIZED my brother. We was the coolest guy in the world. So, spending a weekend with him was going to be such a blast. And it was.

I can't remember the exact details of each day but when I close my eyes I flash on visions of me reading Calvin and Hobbes in his room. Or going to the pool hall on the base and all the guys thinking I was just as cool as my brother.

What I  remember the most was taking a drive down the coast with him down (or up) to Santa Barbara. He put this tape in the stereo and said, "Hey Bean, Have you heard this band yet?" I shook my head no and he said, "Dude, you gotta hear this."

And with that, he turned it up and the beginning of 'You Can't Bring Me Down' started with what sounded like violins, then the heavy guitars started up. I was in heaven. I glanced over at him and watched as he drummed on his steering wheel while nodding his head to the beat. So, I did the same. We looked at me rocking out and did his famous "Yea-hea" in approval.

Whenever I hear the opening to this album, I can still close my eyes and see the ocean, feel that crisp wind on my face and smell the salt in the air. I'm back in the car, just cruising with my big brother. My idol.
